Wannabe Sex and 'The City'?

I caught The City in a rerun last night. Because this show is blatantly aspiring to be a Carrie Bradshaw-esque vehicle for Whitney Port, let's pretend we are watching Sex and the City and imagine we are enagaging in a ritual that leads and finishes with the first word in the title of the show, shall we?

First impressions:

Jay is Justin Bobby, Olivia is a bitch (who looks like Julia Roberts), and Erin looks like Heidi's colleague at Bolthouse Productions (seriously, can't tell the difference between the two).

Courtship:

Jay has a pretty spot-on irritating American accent, Olivia is a big phony ("hiii Elizabeth, how are yooou?"), and the cast members (not to mention the producers) are very irrelevant for casting themselves as "uptown" vs. "downtwown" folks (this is not West Side story!)

First Kiss:

Whitney and Jay's first on-camera kiss!

Foreplay:

Some fashion work stuff, Alex accusing Jay of being a Justin Bobby, and Olivia being more bitchy by asking Whitney "Where's Jaaay?"

Climax:

1. Jay proving he's not so bad by showing up at the lame, uptown, dinner party to pick up Whitney! 2. And Kelly Cutrone being awesome as usual! Yay!

How to Help Idol

Agreed with a LOT of these. You too?

http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20007164_20008532_20202209,00.html

Specifically,

1) no more "mosh pit"
2) budgeting more for the style of the show
3) more mentoring with old Idol contestants
4) half hour result shows
5) "newer" songs!

C'mon, this was the most exciting show in America! Don't let it get predictably cheesy!

Hills Finale

I will write this blog as one that goes from "better or for worse" moments. Ahaha.

Best moment: The Heidi and Lauren reconciliation.

I teared up when Heidi teared up and could really relate to Lauren feeling she knew how to be best friends with Heidi, or enemies, but not in between. I thought this was a shockingly genuine moment for the show.

Next best: Spencer agreeing not to marry Heidi in a courtroom! I mean, he probably negged at it in the last minute because he wants to get MTV to pay him huge bucks to do an actual ceremony...but in the end, the ends did justify the means, and it was the right thing to do.

Worst moment: all the scenes involving Audrina and JB. Ew, ew. You know, I actually liked Audrina at some points this season, but everything about the last few episodes reminded me what a dead-eyed airhead she is. JB is smarter than she is, but it's still like looking at Dumb and Dumber. Check out how unarticulate I am writing this paragraph while I think about them. See, their stupidity is contagious. OK, I feel mean. On a positive note, it was nice of JB to get Audrina a piece of metal to signify their, uh, relationship?

OK. Until next season. (Let it be the final one--please!)

Dunno about you, but if I ever wanted to know the details about birthin' a baby, I would ask this woman...

because she has 18 children!

She said she stopped taking birth control after it was balmed for causing a miscarriage. Now it's 18 kids later...

DAY-UM!

What BS, Heidi and Spencer!!

I almost did not want to write about this, not because I don't watch The Hills, but because I do not want to be another person directing her attention through the media to Hills-related news. I have some standards. But if this is true, this might be MTV taking it one step waaayyy too far into manipulating reality. And what are our reality shows if they are not authentic, America?!

Read:

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20247406,00.html

Summary:

They filmed a scence for the show pretending to legalize thier marriage, when in fact, they went to the court after hours and did not legalize it.

Did You Know...

That this guy (Peter Facinelli), who plays the dreamy doctor patriarch Dr. Cullen of Twilight is Jennie Garth's (Kelly Taylor) husband? Huh.

I Personally Cannot Get Enough of This Jolie-Pitt-Aniston Triangle!

Check this out (and Jen):

And, I'm a little irritated by Brad confirming that he fell in love with Angelina during that movie. We all know it's true, but we don't need it affirmed while Jen is alive and all.

Another Grey's Shocker--Now George Wants Out!

According to multiple sources, TR Knight has asked Shonda Rhimes to give him the pink slip. We can only speculate as to the reasons why, (Lack of "Emmy-worthy" material? Bickering co-stars? Sick of the anti-gay vibes?) but IF this is indeed true, I say it's another jump-the-shark moment...and stupid on his part. Grey's a still hit show--does he really think he's going to be a movie star now or something?

Because of those reasons, I still sense this story may be a stinker.

Update: It's not a stinker!!! He's leaving because he's unhappy with the storyline.

Leno To Stay on NBC!

He will now we doing a nightly show at 10 pm (9 pm CST) instead of his later gig. So, now he will be working in primetime. And what does that mean...?

He basically got a promotion, bitches.

He's not my style really, but the man brings in ratings! And NBC needs ratings.

The Best of Britney: A 10-Year Recap

Now that Britney is "back" (basically meaning she is seemingly normal again and her abs are in tip-top shape), I have been thinking and reflecting upon her 10-year pop star career a lot. The way the media has onslaughted you with coverage, I think you have been thinking a little more about her than usual too. To me, Britney is one of those pop girls who you can look back on and appreciate because, like Madonna, she is timeless. I view her relativity as simply as this: Britney will always be a girl, ocassionally a woman, who suffers heartbreak and happiness like the rest of us and can somehow entertain us with those episodes through her dance or the surprisingly emotive stylings of her voice and images of her sweet face. With that, I compiled some of my personal Britney faves while taking into account overall public effect and the stamp of her musical individuality.

Best Britney Videos (Top 5)

5. Don't Let Me The Last To Know. She is just a beautiful girl on a beautiful beach with a beautiful boy and you watch them, captivated, by guessing the nuances of their love story based on the slow music in the background and images of Britney's plainitive face and unresisitable rock hard abs.
4. Stronger. Good Britney song, set to great chair dancing, and you really, really believe through this simple song and dance that she is stronger than yesterday.

3. Baby One More Time. The video that launched her career looks a little cheesy after all this time, but you still can't look away from her sad, sad face and then her joyous, slightly manic face when she is unexplicably dancing in various school scenes--and let us not forget the school girl outfit.
2. I'm A Slave 4 U. This launched Britney 2.0--sexy, non-schoolgirl, pop princess who wears her underwear wherever and however she feels like!! Need we mention the sweat, the groping, the complete in-your-face dirtiness?
1. Toxic. This video epitomizes what Britney is to me. A playful, charming, little minx who uses her sexiness to take over the world. It's her simple gifts like being able to make a stewardess sexy fun with the beyond adorable "boob" dance, spilling of cocktails, and tiptoeing with the beverage cart. Oh yeah, and her dressed in just diamonds and as the red-headed revengestress in other scenes are other role-playing dreams come true. It is worth noting this video was realized shortly after the "Cry Me a River" mess with Justin, and this career reignition video was her best revenge.

Best Britney Songs (Top 10)

10.Crazy. Crazy fun, early Britney pop complete with her pop-defining persona "oaws."
9. Everytime. Britney is sad in this song and we feel for her, and this song perfectly captures the sound of her angelically high timbre and slowed articulation.

8. Breathe On Me. Britney's little-known hot dance song from her In the Zone album that now clearly showed what kind of songs we can expect from her in the future.
7. Unusual You. Off her latest album Circus, this song is already garnering a lot of critical praise--it is not only a sweet ballad but it has a very Britney pop sound that we have all come to expect.
6. Oops I Did It Again. This teen sang it, and we thought it. The newly crowned pop priness came back with this single from her second album, and we sang it and shook it for the next year.
5. Toxic. Another producer staple, Britney made it work with her original vocals and easy sexiness.
4. Piece of Me. This song came of her most critically acclaimed album, Blackout, (during the lowest point of her personal life), and we loudly and cleary hear "Ms. Bad Media Karma" give it to us straight while churning out her whimisical sound.
3. Stronger. I said it once, I'll say it again, we really believe she is stronger than yesterday in this single. And we love her more for it.
2. Baby One More Time. Her first single really defined who she was, what her sound was, and why we would become eternally fixated on her.

1. Break the Ice. From the the quintessential Blackout album, I think this song would have been one the biggest hits of her career if she just sold it to the media. You have her new Danja-inspired sound with the big chorus sound, breathy backgrounds, and clear as ice vocals. This song more than ever showcased her growth as an artist in its artistic maturity.

More to Come...

Stay tunes for posts on Big Love, the Office (eventually, when the show timing is right), Gossip Girl, and some other stuff I need to catch up on.

Major L Word Spolier--Guess Who's Dying?!?!
