Britney Spears' Circus Concert at Allstate in Chicago

The Britney Spears' Circus concert was on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Allstate Arena and we went on Tuesday. We were immediately told that this was a soldout show and to make sure we sat in the right seat number! Ah yes, was it packed. Packed with teenager girls, 20-something girls, moms, a few eager male fans, and fewer devoted boyfriends.

The Pussycat Dolls performed first, and I could have sworn Nicole (the lead diva of the group) was singing live during most of the concert! You go girl! The same cannot be said for Britney.

I knew not to expect Britney Jean Spears to sing live for most of the concert, but she did not sing ONE NOTE live. I'm fine with that as long as our pop diva is ready to amaze us with her manic dancing, as memorably exhibited at this 2000 VMA performance. But there was maybe 10 minutes of the entire show that we saw her impressive dance skills, and the rest was her posing, walking strongly, or being caressed. I understand she's not 17 anymore, so she's not going to be the exact same sure-footed little minx we grew up with, but I was a bit disappointed to not see her showcase her pop divaness. Yes folks, Britney has lost some of performance magic. She seems a little empty to me. But here's the thing: Britney has made one helluva turnaround in the past year. If we give her 1 more year, she might come back full circle.

Was I entertained during the show? Yes, absolutley! The song set was AMAZING. We heard ALL of our favorites from the past 10 years (Toxic, Everytime, Break the Ice, Piece of Me...), and the segues between songs were perfect. The audience was on its feet the entire time; so many of us were moving to the music with smiles plastered on our faces. And the arena erupted in pure joy when Baby One More Time began to play.

I sat in the upper section with an unobstructed view. At one point, I was offered a ticket to SIT IN THE LOWER SECTION because someone didn't show. I really wanted to, you know, for important editorial purposes, but I did the right thing I stayed with my dear BF so we could enjoy the show togther.

I'm glad I got to see Britney, and I was pleased with the show. I just wish Britney can continue to improve so we can fall in love with her performances all over again.
